How People Treat You Is Really About Them, Not You
Learning this has PROFOUNDLY changed my life.
So much of how someone treats you is about THEM, not YOU.
This does NOT mean we sit back and allow someone to belittle and berate us.
NO WAY!
But we are able to slow down and realize that most of what we experienced with this person has to do with THEM and the way THEY are seeing the world around them.
This kind of compassion creates space for them, but also for US!
Rather than take it personally and feel the need to justify or bite back, we are able to take a step away from the situation and see that there are many invisible factors at play in any interaction.
We can only change OURSELVES. We can only control OURSELVES. All other efforts are futile.
When we can approach any situation from this perspective, it allows us to reflect and grow in any areas we may need to step up, but it also helps the other person not be justified by our reaction to their actions.
